88 degree water temp success.

I got a late start yesterday and didn't get on the lake until around 2pm. It was HOT, but I did have a little bit of a breeze, and as the day went on, the clouds rolled in. The water temp was around 88-89 degrees, semiclear. I tried every color jig I had, and only caught a couple of keepers. I decided to tie on minnows with corks pulling at different depths. The fish went crazy. I was fishing 4 poles by myself, and at times, I would run through a school, and get hits on all 4 at once.

I was trolling I'm guessing around 0.5 mph. (The lowest setting on my motor guide copilot). I wish I had the funds to buy all the bells and whistles, but a cheap Hummingbird and a 16ft 1985 ranger bass boat seems to do the trick.

The fish were not attacking the minnows, it seemed like they would take it in their mouth and hold it. Setting the hook just took a simple slow pulling of the rod.

Any day on the lake is a good day.

It would appear your not in need of the bells and whistles. lol

Just looking at all these guys new boats with 72 rod holders, umbrella jig setups, with 42" depth finders, GPS etc makes me wonder. I thought I was fancy with my new co-pilot motor guide. I guess old school still works.

Well in defence of the fancy stuff at least to a degree, the fishfinder/gps does make it easier getting back to those good spots next time.

Yeah, maybe I've been good enough this year that Santa Claus will bring me one. I know it would be awesome to be able to mark brush piles and structure.

Welcome to the boards and congrats on a great July catch.:ThumbsUp Once you finally make the change to a depthfinder with GPS you will immediately notice the change in your catch rate. Like myself and most everybody else...it takes time to scratch up that much money though. You'll get there...and until then stay after then the old school way. It's DEFINITELY paying off for ya.:)
