I think the 999ci HD SI is a core unit that is being phased out or in other words will not be made anymore so. If I were you the Helix 9 SI would be the one to go with. Now if you were to want to save some money the core units have dropped some what in price and they are nothing wrong with them they work just fine.:twocents
Helix 9 no doubt.
My vote which I just got is Helix 9. Bigger screen and brighter.
HELIX 9 comes stock with the XNT 9 SI 180 T Compact SI xducer ...
999 comes stock with the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T xducer ...
Upgrading the HELIX 9 to the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T will cost about $85 direct thru HB ...
-----
HELIX 9 has AutoChart Live capability ...

Hey Rickie, is there a better upgrade transducer for the Helix DI units?
There is benefit to either TM puck ...
*XTM 9 Di 25 T has 455kHz 16°/200kHz 28° 2d cone shaped beams = narrower cones for better target separation ... especially separating fish from bottom detail ...
*XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T has 200kHz 20°/83kHz 60° 2d cone shaped beams = wider cones for more coverage area ...
The DI is identical in all 3 HB dedicated DI xducers ...

I say helix 9. The autochart feature has put as many if not more fish in my boat than the sonar does. Its a lot easier to graph fish if you already know where to look.
The dedicated HB DI units do have unusual 2d frequencies (200kHz/455kHz) ...
This follows the normal Sonar tendencies that higher frequencies give more detail/target separation ...
I assume this is why HB decided to use the 455kHz 2d frequency in the DI units ...target separation ...
