RICKIE,I TALK TO YOU ABOUT MY 859 WITH EXTRA DUCER TO SEE SIDE WAYS,IT HAS THE SWITCH AND CABLE AND SPLITTER CABLE.IT ONLY GIVE CORRECT BOTTOM READING WHEN I TURN DUCER STRAIGHT DOWN,I HAVE EXTRA 2D DUCER FOR BOTTOM,WELL I UNPLUG 2D DUCER AND 2D PIC WAS LOST BUT THE BOTTOM READING STILL WORK ,IF DI DUCER WAS STRAIGHT DOWN BOTTOM READING WAS CORRECT BUT WHEN I TURN IT SIDE WAYS BOTTOM READING GOES WILD. BTW I AM USING ONE SIDE OF SI DUCER FOR DI

This is most likely a factor of the "Digital Depth Source" "Menu" setting under the Sonar tab of the HB DI units ...

*When "Digital Depth Source" is set to "Auto" ...:
1. The unit determines digital depth from the DI piezo (pin #1 wire channel -regardless of xducer actually connected) up to about 10ft ...
2. The unit determines digital depth from the 2d piezo (pin #6 wire channel -regardless of xducer actually connected) deeper than 10ft ...

*When the "Digital Depth Source" is set to "2d Element" ...
1. The unit determines digital depth from the 2d piezo all the time ...

Deborah expounded on this (in a separate correspondence to me) indicating the digital depth is determined by the 455kHz 2d beam up to 150ft and then uses the 200kHz 2d beam up to the unit maximum depth capability of 650ft ...(when the unit is using the 2d piezo for digital depth regardless of the "Digital Depth Source" "Menu" selection) ...

I haven't been able to get a reasonable explanation from anyone at HB as to why the engineers decided to use the DI piezo at all for digital depth ...
