Fathers Day Report
I hope everyone had a great Fathers Day! Mine was absolutely perfect from start to finish! My day started out with a trip to the lake with my old man, a dinner of fried quail, and visiting with my in laws in the afternoon! On to the fishing...
Since I was probably about 4 years old my Dad and I have taken a fishing trip to celebrate my birthday and Fathers Day. If we've skipped a year, I can't remember. Normally we don't get to go on Fathers Day, but this year it worked out. My Dad instilled in me a passion for the outdoors from a very young age and taught me everything I know about the woods and water. I couldn't think of a better person to share a boat with and we've shared one many a trip!
We chose our favorite tactic as our plan of attack...single pole jigging. Neither of us had been fishing in several weeks so we were on the hunt. All the brush I had up the rivers is either old or was washed in the flood back in October so we've been relying on obvious cover to jig. Life's been too busy to get any work done on the lake, but that's in the works.
We started about 7 AM and fished hard and fast covering as much water as we could. We fished everything from brush, bridges, docks, and more. We dropped jigs in water as shallow as a couple feet and as deep as 20 FOW and it was slow going till later in the morning. We beat out a fish here and there until the end of our trip when we stumbled on an old honey hole. It took a while to get them fired up, but once the first fish came in the boat they turned on. We boated over half our keepers from that single spot.
All in all it was a great morning of fishing with my Dad. We ended our trip a little before 11 AM with 24 keepers in the box and a total of around 30-35 fish caught. Best color combo was probably yellow/white. No meat, just jigs. Water temp was 89 all morning. We had some quality fish to show for our efforts too. Better than average for us this time of year up the lake. Only problem with a trip like that is I'm itching to go again!!!!

And my future fishing partner is growing up!!! She'll be a year old in just a few weeks. And she already loves looking at the deer and fish on the wall in our house!

To spend a day on the water with your dad is awesome on any day and for it to be on Father's Day just adds to it. Enjoyed reading your report and seeing the nice crappie caught. Will not be long and that cutie pie of yours will be right beside you on each trip. :ThumbsUp
