Bluegills and Spiro Lake
I've not caught a crappie this season due to a number of reasons....high water, wind, rain, bad timing, etc. so now I'm thinking I'd like to take my kayak and see if I can get on some bluegills.
I live in Tulsa and I have heard that Spiro Lake is a good bluegill lake but I've never been there. Does anyone know about Spiro and if not, has anyone got a recommendation on where an old guy could sneak up on some of these tasty fish?

If you are willing to settle for a bunch of 7 inch fish with an occasional larger one mixed in you might try lake Massena (Bristow City Lake). It is literally full of 6 and 7 inch Bluegill, a few big Readear and Green Sunfish. My grandkids love the little filets and even though it is a pain to clean them I make a trip or two over there every year and easily catch over a hundred in two or three hours of fishing.

Spiro lake is an unbelievable blue gill lake. I've fished it many times. It lies SW of Spiro. Go right by the AES shady point power plant will take you to the ramp. You won't regret the trip.

Do you have to pay to fish this lake. If so can you pay at the lake

There is no cost that I'm aware of and there is nothing but a ramp to splash your boat in. Here's a number you can call and inquire though. 918) 962-2477
