Watts Bar tailwater report: 6/08/2016
This was a morning that I was going to sleep in and get some rest for my aging bones. I have a birthday coming up on Saturday and I was going to get a fire permit for the candles on the cake.
But, Dr Phil called last night and I told him that he could take my boat and he and son-in-law go up to the Bar and fished for Stripers if he wanted too. I was going to rest.
He threatened, cajoled, begged, pleaded and promised to make my breakfast if I would go with them. I have a hard time telling anyone no. I'm not sure what the definition of that word is.
Anyway, I got up at 4 AM again, and met him and Adam for the trip to Watts Bar. I'm sort of glad that I did. We caught 4 Walleyes, 3 Stripers, 1 White bass, and 1 Skipjack all by 8:30 AM which is the time that we quit fishing and went back home for breakfast. I almost left out the 2 Drum that they caught. Grin.
1 oz Shad head jigs with plastics on them casting cross current and letting the jigs swim downstream before retrieving them was the technique that we have been using for about 2 months. I'll let the pics do the talking.
On the last cast of the morning, Dr Phil hooked and landed the 18 lb 2 oz Striper and I wouldn't give him another opportunity to make another cast. It was trailer time. Grin.
