Watts Bar tailwater report 6/07/2016
Cuonthelake showed out again this AM. We began fishing at 6:00 AM. That means that we have to get up about 4:00 to get ready to make the nearly one hour drive up to the dam area. The Striper bite is over or so we had been told.
But at 6:10, Candi hooked up an 18 lb 5 oz brute of a Striper and we had to chase this fish for about 10 minutes and about 1/4 mile downriver before we got it to the net.
Then at 6:40, she hooked up another brute and we chased it too. But this one was only 15 lbs 10 ozs and we whipped this fish in about 1/2 the distance of the first one. We tried to revive it, but it was a goner, so into the live well it went to await a "grilling" lesson that it won't soon forget. Grin.
We fish about another 1.5 hours and all we had to show for it was the 4 huge Drum that I caught. I am still the Drumking. The 2nd one was the biggest fish, but we didn't measure it. The 3rd one was not as big and it was 31" long.
Then we fished for Blue catfish for a little over an hour and landed 11 Blues. I narrowly nosed out Candi for numbers, 6 to 5. I kept 3 for the dinner table and we released all the rest.
