Burns last Wednesday and yesterday

Well got to take my dad to the burns last Wednesday and yesterday. Last Wednesday we went bass fishing and it was tough! Dad outfished me by far but none of the bass he caught were keepable. I managed to catch one nice bass and then lose my best spinnerbait, and the fish, just before we left. Ran into a nice family at the landing and they tore up the bream on cold worms out in the marsh. So we decided to give the bream a shot yesterday and were glad we did! Ended up keeping 28 nice bream and throwing a bunch (that could have been kept easily) back. Well here are the pictures.

Forgot to bring the camera with us yesterday so only got a box shot when we got back. Dad cleaned them up and fried them for Angie and I tonight. They sure were good!

Yeah doggie, that's some fine looking fish in that box. I love eating them on the bone but sometimes I'll take the time to fillet them for some delicious little morsels. Job well done to you and POP.

Dear Dwyane.....this is weird but I was thinking about my Dad this am....wondered what it would have been like.....if he had not died at 56......if we would have stayed together as a family......if staying together would have changed me from what I am now or where I am now....if I would have taken him fishing or if he would have taken me fishing....what he was like........and I, write this because I am in no way envious of any one growing up with a Dad, but because I get such joy reading about your experiences with all of your family members and I wanted to thank you, Dwyane, and all of you, for your stories and trips and all that you share with the rest of us so, I, because I can not speak for others, can experience what you do......

Ah shucks Tal, you going to make me cry! lol Naw, I enjoy taking dad even though it is a little more difficult than it used to be. He can't get around quite as easily as he once did, still does get around though! But hey when I ask the man who taught me how to fish if he wants to make an afternoon trip and he says...."Heck yea!" then you can bet your bottom dollar that I am going to bring him!

The burns is a marsh that is south of Sweet Lake and south east of Lake Charles. Miami Corporation is the official name of it. You have to buy a permit, $40, every year to fish it and it usually opens up around the 15th of March every year and stays open until August I believe. The area I fish is the marsh just over Gibbstown bridge to the east. It does have a lot of marsh that looks like Lacassine but I assure you they are 2 different marshes. You probably want catch any 10lb bass here but you can catch 10 - 1 lb bass quite a few times out there! We had both chickapin and bluegill but the majority was bluegill. The picture of the bream was not a great picture.
