Help me pick my fishing line

I've mostly bass fished and am still learning to crappie fish.

I just purchased an Ultra Light St. Croix Panfish rod and have paired it up with a 1000 sized Shimano Ci4.

The reel is probably overkill, but I've been fishing road runners mostly, and occasion can have a larger bass land on them. My other rod is spooled up with high vis 10lbs Power Pro Braided line with a 6 lbs Seagur Flourocarbon leader. I like the way it casts, but should I be using mono or a lighter line to score big on the crappies?

I'm interested in trying other lures, and using live minnows and other tactics to catch crappie. Any advice on what I should try spooling my reel with next?

Nothing wrong with what you are using, if your happy with it. I use braid or fused line. Unless fishing ultra clear waters don't think line color or type makes any difference at all to crappie.

I agree with Cray ... if it works, stick with it.

I also agree that, unless you fish fairly clear water ... hi-viz line colors won't matter to the fish, but will certainly help you see the "tic" of a light bite in the line.

I've used many different colors of hi-viz line ... and am currently using Vicious Panfish Copoly 6# test on my jig casting rods. It's close to a chartreuse color, and my partner uses Stren Gold ... and we both catch fish regularly, even in lightly stained water. We tie directly to the jig with the hi-viz line, too. (and yes, we cast Roadrunners too ... with the same results)

I really like Vicious panfish line in Hi Viz,Never had a problem.

I ditto the guys above . That being said I have been using(4,6,8 lb.) stren original clear blue for 40 years , on my jig poles . spider rig with Cabela's high vis pro-line(12) , with a Fluor-carbon(8lb.)leader .

I'm 100% mono line...
But if that works for you, keep using it.

Only thing about going lighter is casting distance . Lighter line can help in clear water but big advantage is casting distance.

All of my crappie reels have 6# Suffix mono, high visibility yellow. I dont catch many bass when crappie fishing so Ive been thinking of downsizing to 4# line next year.
