The Revenant
Some of you may have already seen this movie. Some may not have. There's certainly been a lot of hype and advertising about this flick. I do not like seeing a movie before reading the book. Gives me better enjoyment of the film. So, I'm about 3/4 into the book and I'm saying to myself, "self.....something is very familiar here!"
The year is 1971. The actor is Richard Harris. The film is entitled, "Man in the Wilderness". Almost the same script all the way through. Not sure if the ending will be the same yet, but the flick certainly is very close. I'm sure the "new" flick, The Revenant is cinematography superior to the old movie, but do not believe that this premise hasn't been done before.
I'm actually looking forward to see the new movie, but now I know it's just a re-make. Hollywood should try to come up with something new every once in awhile, don'tcha think? :)

I watched the Revenant the other night and was hoping for something really great based on the hype. But as I watched it it, I thought to myself...this is just "Man in the Wilderness" with better technology. It was OK, but had some weak points. Don't want to spoil it for anybody, so I won't say no more.

It is based loosely on a true story but with a lot of Hollywood license taken. I saw it when it first came out and it is one of the few movies where everyone left after it was over without saying a word. It was like attending a wake.
Seems I read it was based on the true story and the earlier film. Not something my wife would want to watch but a bunch of us guys watched it on a golf outing.
Not to get off topic buy my wife and I just watched "Bridge of Spies" and it is an excellent movie based on the Gary Powers U2 incident in the 60s'. Tom Hanks does an excellent job as the lawyer that negotiated the spy exchange. No F bombs are slut, just a good movie.

Watched it a couple weeks ago. I thought it was sub par. I guess it you like spending most of the movie looking up through the trees in some kind of dream state it may be for you. Glad I watched on DVD instead of getting raped at the theater!!!!

Sorry movie, I want my money back. It's not nearly the Quality of "Man in the Wilderness" and the language is horrible too.
