David was kind enough to invite us down to try that beautiful border lake Saturday nite. We headed dow just after lunch and picked up my crew on the way down 85. BigDawgg and Fisherfore joined in for the fun.
Once we got on the water we ran about 30 minutes under 3 bridges( one of which went over 75 feet of water I wasn't sure if the boat would float in that deep of water).
We got set up un=der the 3rd bridge and settled in and waited for the bite. It wasn't too long before a Hickory Shad came over the rail. Then a crappie then more Shad a few Crappies and a lot more Shad came on board.
I got the biggest Crappie, Fisherfore got several larger Shad, the Dogaww had worked all day and wasn't into the battle so he only boated a few fish then took over control of the captains chair and began to sound like a rooting hog. :-)
The Hartwell crew left about midnight, since we didn't have anywhere to be we stuck it out till 3:30 and headed to the dock ay 4mph. It was so dark...how dark was it. We had the spot light out watching for floating debris and 2 eyes not he depth finder and gps to find out way back to the dock. Not many boats out at O' Dark 30.
We bedded down for a couple hours had breakfast and headed home. The final Crappie count was about 18, untold number of Shad, plus two Herring that went into the live well for later in the week. Yes, we caught 2 Herring on Crappie minnows.
We all had a great time even without much sleep.
I'm finding I'm not as young as I used to be these long trips are getting harder each time.
Fisherfore will post some pictures, he was the staff photographer for the trip.
