Went out the last couple days and started catching some nice crappie on jigs. I never caught them like that before. We always caught them with killies we would catch ourselves. But now you cant use them any more by me. You are supposed to used certified bait from the bait shop and most don't carry them. We were using mostly tubes 2 ft under a float. They were all between 6-10 inches. The only bad part is the lake is not good to keep fish from, but we had a blast anyway.
looks like they are finally hitting some--my brother fished yesterday and caught a few crappie,gills and some nice perch !!
Congrats on the catching part. Now the big question...Where? I don't want your honey-hole coordinates, but what body of water where you on and did you take note of the water temp? Thanks and I hope your pole stays bent.
Lamoka-and -Waneta
You guys really make it tough for those of us not familiar with your area...I appreciate the information and for those who might not know theses lakes...I puled the following from a search...credit Wikipedia (although no college will allow you to use them as a trusted source)
Lamoka Lake (previously known as "Mud Lake"[1]) is a small crescent-shaped lake in the western part of New York. The lake is located at the border of Schuyler County and Steuben County. Most of the lake is in Schuyler County with only a small part, called "Mill Pond," at the southwest corner in Steuben County.
North of Lamoka Lake is another lake called Waneta Lake (previously known as "Little Lake"[1] ) which is linked to Lamoka Lake by a short channel. Both Lamoka Lake and Waneta Lake are east of Keuka Lake, one of the Finger Lakes. However, they are not part of the Finger Lakes drainage system. While the Finger Lakes drain north into the St. Lawrence River system, Lamoka and Waneta Lakes drain south into Mill Pond, then Mud Creek, and then to the Cohocton River in the Susquehanna River system.
The lake is well-stocked with a variety of fish, including several species of panfish. Boat launching ramps are available for each lake.

not much luck with all the cool weather lately---a few crappie--several pickeral and a large mouth ---weather is going to be warmer so it should improve sooooon-----fished from 3 to 14 feet --- water temp who knows as my ff quit reading temp----
next Friday should be in NY for the summer and might get fishing Sat. Black lake area the week of the 29th. Have to start loading Tues, pontoon boat and truck. Wish me good luck, it is a long 1100 plus miles. Like to have everything gone over, especially Bearings. Hate 8 mpg but atleast gas is almost half of what we paid per gal when we brought it to Fl. in 2012. Shame we did not use it as much as I thought so the Gran kids will have a boat to use. Glad they are excited and the Son will keep it maintained for me when I want to use it summer. I am sure the kids and him will use it a lot.
