Saw two docks at LOZ that posted "NO ANCHORING WITHIN 100 FEET OF DOCK." Is there any legality to this? I assume this is to keep partiers from getting to close to the dock; but if someone anchored or Powerpoled to hold their place to fish within 100 feet would it be against a law?
I know it's illegal to anchor in a way that blocks the navigation channel. It's illegal to anchor within so many feet of a gas line. I can't see a personal sign on a dock meaning a dang thing unless it is referring to the dock of a "on the water business" or there is official markings on it such as USACE or water patrol.
well somebody who actually knows will answer this for you I'm sure. But I will tell you that Ameren has some of the most comprehensive rules and regulations on docks I have ever seen on a lake. By the time an owner completes all the requirements they probably do feel like they should own the water. But I do not believe there is a minimum anchoring distance I've seen. Ameren discourages people from cutting off shore access also.
On Lake Egypt in Southern Illinois the Power company there owns the Lake and has a specific set of rules governing all activity on the Lake. And there it is prohibited to anchor within 100 ft of a dock. And you cannot cast within 10 ft.

There were no ordinance numbers on the sign just said no anchoring...I think I'll anchor where ever I please until I'm told otherwise by a law enforcement official...however if an owner was out on their dock enjoying the day I would not anchor next to it.
I have a place up there and I've never heard of a law like that. Like previously mentioned my bet is he's trying to deter pleasure boaters from anchoring close to his dock and partying.
