The weather will be warming up before you know it, how many "Late Night" night fisherman do we have here? By late night I'm talking 11 or 12 o'clock or later. Are some lakes better than others for night fishing? I've fished FG at night but never done to good but hope to learn how to do better this year.
What are some of the methods and setups both tackle and boat rigs have you found to be the way to go for night fishing?
Only bass fished at night.
Big loud, black, noisy baits like jitterbugs and chug poppers work.
Mostly on Grand and Beaver.
We have friends that night fished for crappie on Kaw. They had a pontoon with sleeping quarters.
The would tie up to the tower structures on Kaw just outside Sarge campground and use minnows.
Nap a little, fish a little. They did pretty good at times.
A lot of folks wait to fish at night during the summer months when right now is the best time. A large majority of the bigger crappie come in shallow and spawn at night. One of the biggest stringers of crappie I've ever seen was caught by 2 older gentlemen that was loading their boat one morning just as I was putting mine in the water at daylight. They had their limit of big crappie and said they caught over 200 that night. That was about April 19th. They were fishing coves in 6 to 8 ft of water over brush using floating lights. Water clarity makes a big difference the clearer water seems to work better probably because of better light reflection. We use 2 submersible green LED lights one at each end of the boat. The LED's don't pull a lot of power. Slip corks and big shiners work well. If this wind ever lays and Kaw don't end up flooded again we will be after them
