Tville 4/21/16 Report
Dad and I snuck off last night to hit a few of my spots at Tville. Engine problems and parts supplier incompetence kept us from fishing the peak of the spawn. A real bummer from pics I've seen posted, but at least we can catch the tail end of it.
The weather was rough when we got there but after the storm front came thru it calmed down nicely and we had a nice evening of fishing. Only had time to hit four spots. Water temp was 68 deg and at summer pool. Caught a lot of small males guarding the nests. Bigger females were in slightly deeper water around standing timber. Several still had eggs. We ended up with 21 keepers. I came out with my personal best female from Tville. She was 13" and still full of eggs.
For some reason we lost several good keepers again. I'm gonna have to figure this out. We would have had 30 pretty easy if not for that. I'm gonna try some different things tomorrow.

The clouds broke right before sunset and gave us a wonderful show. A full rainbow straddled the lake as a Loon sounded off in the distance. Man what a nice evening on my favorite lake!

Had that same problem at Green River, last Sunday. Small fish were slamming the plastics, but the bigger fish were hitting my Roadrunner with just the slightest of tugs. I had 3 or 4 good fish come unbuttoned on the Roadrunner ... and figured it was either they weren't all that interested in it & were just nipping at it, or the small #4 hooks were just not getting penetration deep enough into their mouths.
It was probably a combination of both, seeing as how I trim the marabou tail back to about halfway between the hook bend & the tip end of the marabou (as it comes in the package) ... so it's not like they were nipping at the very end of the marabou tail feathers. Trimmed as such, the length (from head to tip of tail) is no more than 1.75" long.
My guess is that they were "half-heartedly" hitting at it, and may have been due to the fact that they were past their pre-spawn feeding mode & seriously searching for a bed mate.
