New boat and tips/tricks on electronics form Crappie.com members

All- I purchased a 2014 Lund Impact 1675 recently and this baby is loaded. It has a HB 1199 HD SI KVD at the console and a HB 959 HD DI in the bow. The finders are networked to an 80# MK Terrova with iPilot and I think link. I've watched a few of the videos on the HB website, but I wanted to see if you guys had any tips on configuring the finders and maximizing efficiency/fishability. This is the Crappie Edition Lund and my wife and I plan to sit side by side in the front most of the time; keeping an eye on the 959.

Any help is greatly appreciated in advance!

The best luck I've had is to find a good piece of structure/cover in an area and depth you normally fish. When the tree or brushpile is about to the middle of the screen, activate your cursor to freeze the screen. While the screen is frozen, start making adjustments to find the settings you like. Settings might change with depth, water clarity, etx.

Rickie has some settings to start out with, and I'm sure he will get on here later, but at least you can go play with the units now. By stopping the screen you can see what effect your changes are having....better or worse.

I have a 999 SI KVD edition on my Alumacraft Crappie Magnum and Terror 55 with pilot Link and then a pair of Helix 10 SI KVD's (one at bow and one at Dash) on my Xpress H20PFC that are networked together with an Ulterra 80 with i-pilot. I went to You Tube and watched Doug Vahrenburg's tips and tricks on all of the Hummingbird units. They are well worth your time and he has quite a few videos that cover both of your 9 series units. He gives good details and visual aids to help you understand the setup and what you are seeing.

Here are Doug's quick start "Menu" settings for the SI ...

The DI unit would be similar ...with a few tweaks ...

*455kHz for more coverage with less detail ...
*800kHz for more detail with less coverage ...

In both units use Sensitivity as a brightness control frequently (for DI/SI) ...

With the default settings I was able to mark brush this weekend and caught some really nice crappies and gills in 13' of water with slip floats set at 8'. The 2" Gulp Fry in pearl threaded on a #2 aberdeen were the ticket. Very aggressive fish!

I also want to give a shout out to Minkota anchor lock technology!!! We were in steady 25mph winds with gusts up to 40mph and the 80# Terrova kept us on target and on the bite for a couple hours before the wind kicked up another notch and the white caps and waves drove us back to the dock.
