Watts Bar tailwater report: white bass and walleye 4/20/16
My very best crappie student, cuonthelake, wanted to go to Watts Bar tailwaters to fish for white bass today. I have made a believer out of her now and she believes, as I do, that white bass are just about the best tasting fish that swims if cleaned properly. Not worth a dime if not.
We had 3 bonus fish, walleyes, 23", 20", and 18.5". Now there is some good eating as well. Oh, and a little Rockfish hybrid that we released to grow up some more.
We kept 23 out of about 50-60 white bass that we caught. This ought to fill up Candi's freezer. Grin.
We caught all our fish on swimbaits. Storm 3" 1/4 oz chartreuse color and a 1/4 oz shad head jig powder painted chartreuse with a Zoom super salty fluke Jr in white ice color. The white bass are spawning at this moment up there and the full moon phase that we are entering will probably finish this bite up in a very short time.
TVA running 6,600 cfs with only one turbine. Water temp was a balmy 59 degrees, sunny skies and very little wind. It is time to get back to crappie fishing. Grin.
I also want to thank Slab for sending the prize lures for the March fishing reports. They are great.
