Windy River Crappie Report

I went fishing in the river today, and it was windy...very windy. My least favorite conditions again: NE winds 15 - 20 and gusting. Well, I tried the back of a cove to see if I could find some out of the wind. No chance. The fish were at the mouth of the cove, right in the center, right in the wind. I caught these fish in water that was 8 -11 feet deep. My jig and minnow combo baits were set about 3 or 4 feet deep.

I kept 15 crappie and one flier. I caught about a dozen fliers, and six yellow perch, too.
The biggest crappie was 13 inches:

WOW! nice mess of fish, that wind by golly I have been cussing all week. I know that must of been tough to deal with, did you just anchor up?

No. Never threw out the anchor. Thought about it, though. Just kept the TM in gear and the boat pointed into the wind. Had to crank it up often to maintain position. No I-Pilot. Just hand controlled TM. It was work. I only fished for about 4 hours before the battery got low.

The water was real low. About 3' lower than I have ever seen it. No way the fish could be on the banks, since the banks were all exposed and dry. So, I moved back to the first drop. I wonder how much the low water and exposed banks affect the spawn?

Thanks, Kevin, it was, but I didn't measure it. It was probably over 10 inches.
