Where are some good places to go fishing from the bank with kids?

We have been to Mountain Lakes in Chester, Chester State Park, and John D Long in Lockhart. We have had no luck anywhere. Kids are getting bored with it because we are not catching anything not even bait stealing baby bream. We are planning on going to Lake Wateree state Park this weekend. I've never been so I'm hoping there is room to fish. I have 4 kids and a wife so I need a bit of space to fish or we end up fighting over tangled and crossed lines. We don't care what we catch. I just want the wife and kids to catch something. I live in York and Wateree is kind of a drive but if we catch fish its worth it.

Matt,you may be able to catch some catfish out in front of the store at the state park,,shad would work best. A few folks fish at the causeway around the riprap. Probally be some fishermen camping and mabey some will have some shad to spare and some advise to mabey help you and your family catch some

Not sure what setups your using, but one of the biggest challenges i have when fishing off shore is knowing the depth. If fishing for bottom feeders, in minnesota i will use a floating jig and bait with split shot sinker adjust to the depth from the bottom i want to fish at. Your bait stays in the strike zone of the bottom feeding fish that way. Just make sure you drag is loose or bail is open so a big one doesnt take your rod. Channels, fishing under bridges, and narrows seems to canalize fish and is an effective way to fish this technique.

Allison Creek Landing (on 274 between clover and Newport) has a pier in the vicinity that produces crappies, perch, tons of bait stealing raccoon perch and bream, and slimers all day. I fish it successfully with a slip cork and minnows to catch crappies. Pros Cutbait, BigDawg, Larry, and the rest nail crappie regularly on custom jigs. A slip cork does better than a fixed cork because you can set a deeper depth with a stop knot that can be reeled up through the guides and onto a spinning reel spool(doesn't work on spin casters and bait casters).

The Whipper is right on the Allison Creek pier. Lot of fish caught there. Usually lot of company on weekends also. But many folks walk the bank around there and catch fish. It is off Hwy. 274 at Allison Creek Church. Follow the signs. Good Luck.

I don't live in that area, but wanted to cheer you on. You have your hands full. Its worth it too. My boys still love to fish, and the girls at least have a patience for it. The wife, well. . . . . . .
