Santee on a couple of breezy days
Hit the lake on Saturday with my bud Tommy. The pressure was very low, and fish were holding tight and deep. The first couple of hours were decent weather wise with the winds at 5 to 10. The bites were slow, but enough to keep us focused. Around lunch time, Mother Nature decided to turn the fan on high. We were out on the main lake trying to get back to the protection of the creek we put in at. We got within 1/2 mile when the gusts started up. Let me tell ya, that was a slow rough ride but all worked out ok. We continued to fish, and found pockets of ones willing to bite. We kept at it and beat out a decent double limit of crappie, along with 17 nice bream. On Sunday, I made a rare fishing trip as a close friend stated he would love to trade some venison burger and cube for a box of fresh crappie. He and I have made this deal before, so I headed to the lake this morning after the winds finally eased off arounf 8:00am. The fish were biting very well to my suprise. I caught a limit of quality fish in a couple of hours and was back at the house in time to get a little rest before work tonight. Both days were spent vertically jigging brush, logs and grass. A multitude of colors were working on both days. Fish were caught as deep as 23 feet, and as shallow as 3 feet. A good mix of prespawn and postspawn fish were in the catch.
