fished clearwater today... water temps???

well I hit just about every piece of structure on the lake for crappie and did a little bass fishing too. ended up catching a black perch. tried every color scheme possible on jigs, had one 10-12" crappie on for maybe 5 seconds and he came off at the surface... other than that no other bites even, water temp ranged from 48 to 54 degrees. is this lower than temps at truman, loz, wapp, etc??? fish should have been biting but just weren't talked to several other boats on the lake and other than a few bass, no one talked of catching any paper mouths or whites for that matter even.

Kind of odd for sure should have found a few at least. Thanks for the report keep after them.

Too me that's just Clearwater. There are still lakes running mid to high fifties warming to low sixties in shallow water when the sun is shining. I have not been to Wapp this year but it is typically the warmest water around. The St.Francis just runs a little warmer than the upper Black and Clearwater has more deep water.Also gets cold in those hills out there at night.Wapp has all that shallow flat bottom water that warms good when the sun shines.

Sorta wonder if your temp gauge off a little...surprised you were finding any water in the 40's . For crappie the only thing I look at water temp for is if i want to look for them in bedding areas. Other than that just have to search shallow to deep to find them anytime. Clearwater needs more structure and some grass beds. Honestly I have not fished it in years though. People hate grass for boating and other recreational purposes. But it is the best thing there is to turn a fishery around.

I agree on the structure thing. and as far as temps I confirmed with 2 other boats, up from bluff view where the water clears up and is basically river it was 48 degrees and in spots 49, Webb creek side of the lake in a 4-6 ft deep flat is where I found the 54 degree water and actually had somthing other than dragging bottom make my poles bounce... but also just spoke with someone in person that has limited out on white bass 2 days in a row but he won't tell me how he's doing it exactly hahaha.

oh the whites were all female white bass full of eggs. I helped him filet them out lol

According to the Mo Dept. of Conservation, Clearwater may have a tough year due to a poor spawning class a couple of years ago. That's not going to keep me from trying though.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...f7c1ade1f2.jpg

wow, speck I had no idea. you know some of my best spring crappie memories were up black river. we run the jet boat up above Charleton bluff and find pockets holding fish. especially after the water has been up high. find em staged you could throw any color just about jig at em and clean house, we caught 4 limits off of a log that was in a 5 by 7 foot pothole of 4 ft deep water one time.
