Russell Wind report / Fishing Report 3-28-16
I had my morning full of appointments but had checked my local wind reports and it showed 9 - 11 mph winds. Leaving the house at noon it put me getting to the lake about 1:15 and that 11 mph wind was white capping the lake :dono
Decided to unload and go for it hoping I could find a sheltered cove out of the wind, well that didn't happen.... the wind speeds had to be in the high 20's and it made fishing tough. My plan was to fish the trees and I hung in until 6:30 when I put my last keeper fish in the boat to top off my limit for the day. Caught another 10-15 short fish under 10'' the got released along two 12'' white crappie. The white crappie are just starting to show up in Russell over the last few years so I try to release all of them so they can spawn.
Hair jigs was the ticket again with the fish holding tight to the trees in 12 to 15' depths. Water temp 63 degrees with a light stain where I fished.
The fishing has been odd this year but they can be caught, just have to stick with it until you find the right combo they want.
A couple of pics, the first pic I took from the dock before leaving the ramp area.
