Hey guys, looking for some advise.
My father inlaw has a 15ft Dagger older model bass boat.
The motor ( a 65 hp Merc) on it has a dead cylinder or 2.
My question is what is a good hp motor for this boat?
Hull should not be more than 500lbs.
I think a 20 or 25hp should plane it out and run at higher than a snails pace.
Am I thinking right? I'm not looking to burn the water up,
Just to be able to fish the boat and be able to move around at a fare speed.
What do yall think?
I'm not familiar with a Dagger boat but I did google a couple. I think from what I saw Id be a bit more comfortable with a 40 or 50 hp (preferrably) motor myself. Some of those older bass boats are a bit heavier than you think and it takes a little to get out of the hole shot. With you, all your gear, maybe a fishing partner.........just saying. Just my opinion...
40 or 50. Not sure a 25hp will do. I've got a 16' carolina skiff. With me, my gear, two batts, and a small bait tank my 25hp barely gets on plane. That's totally stripped down. Small front deck and no back deck. With two people it takes a loooooong Time to plane out.

Go for the 50. You saw how slow a 40 was on my Tracker last week.
