Fishing after a rainy day or cold front

I was talking with a buddy today as we're looking forward to a 4 day weekend this week and I asked him what he thought about fishing on Friday after having mostly rain tomorrow that's gonna accompany a weak cold front. His opinion was that it wouldn't be a great day for fishing for those two reasons. I'll be fishing out of a kayak and will be taking a couple of casting rods and using mostly jigs. It's probably my best opportunity to get out there this week and I'd like to make the most of it. I searched around a little bit here and didn't find anything so I thought I'd just ask for some advice. Thanks in advance!

Unless the rain is substantial, it won't likely affect matters ... the cold front, on the other hand, could keep the fish from returning back to the more shallow waters they had been in during the previous warming trend.

Check on the KY state forum for reports on recent trips, especially Taylorsville Lake ... if that's where you plan to fish. The lake "was" dirty, but warming, and the fish were being caught in <5ft of water ... the cold spell came back (and the water cleared up some), and the fish retreated from the shallow banks & moved deeper, but were still being caught. I would think that the cold/rain of Thurs. wouldn't necessarily drive them any deeper, but most likely keep them where they are. The warming trend after Thurs. might briefly bring them shallower, but it's gonna take a sustained warming trend to get the water temps above 60deg & keep it there for any length of time.

Thanks CP. Taylorsville is my destination. I also just found a forecast that shows the rain not getting bad till around noon so I'm gonna take the rain gear and hit it early. Maybe Friday too!

Let me know how you do, either by PM to me or posting a report on the KY state forum. If you post a report ... general info is best, so as not to announce actual locations to the internet meathogs. And pics are always great & appreciated, but make the bottom of the boat or the sky your background (or take pics at home) so as to not show any recognizable bank images that may give away your spots.

And put the word "REPORT" in the title of your post ... and post a picture ... and you'll get entered into the Bobby Garland baits contest that SuperMod "D" is currently running.

Thanks again fellas. I did go out Friday morning for a few hours and got skunked. I can tell you that it was WINDY, and the water was about 52 degrees. I didn't see any value in making a true report on the T-Ville thread since everyone else had the sense to stay home:dono

You did the right thing by going....go when you can go...you will be a better fisherman for it......

Then check out mine & Johnny Miller's reports on Taylorsville !! I figure between his report and my experience on Sunday ... the fish are still in a pre-spawn feeding mode, right now.
According to the weather forecast of the next 10 days .... the first wave of spawners should be hitting the banks by the middle of next week, or at least "looking the place over". The eggs I saw are still a few weeks away from being ready to drop, but that don't mean the males won't be nosing around the banks looking for a good place to bed. :twocents

Does crappie bite while it's raining?

I have to drive long way for crappie fishing and some time only have small window to fish. I could wear rain jacket and fish while raining.
