I have a MinnKota i-Pilot and am quite happy with the GPS hold position feature. If I find a school I want to sit on top of, it's a lot quicker than getting an anchor set. Also, if I want to move a few hundred feet, I don't have to pull up anchor and set it again... It's especially useful when I'm alone on the boat.
FB, I HAVE A XI5,IT IS GREAT FOR BRUSHPILES,WILL SET OVER THEM GOOD, WHAT STYLE FISHING DO U MOSTLY DO?
Thanks Gene and Croaker, Gene I knew you had a Xi5 and was hoping to get some input from you. I prefer brush pile fishing or any structure that holds fish casting jigs. Getting tired of the 20# anchors. But have developed my skills flat line trolling and have to admit I am getting spoiled some. Sure is easy to locate scattered fish or concentrations and somewhat easier to pattern fish on any given piece of water. My heart will always lie in the one rod casting a jig...love that thump, bite on the drop, dead sticking in winter/ summer, finesse fishing or sometimes watching the cork disappear. I think you know what I mean...FB
FB, I MUST SAY THEY ARE GOOD FOR BP,AND ARE GOOD FOR FLATLINNING ,BOTH WAYS U CAN TIE A BAIT WHILE IT DO THE DRIVING. ON DOCKS IF WIND IS BLOWING INTO DOCKS U CAN POINT IT INTO WIND AND HIT SPOTLOCK AND GET IN BACK OF BOAT AND SHOOT DOCKS HOWEVER IF WIND IS SIDE WAYS TO DOCK IT IS NOT THE BEST OR IF NO WIND I JUST DO NOT USE SPOTLOCK ,THE TM LOVES WIND ,I DO NOT LIKE THE FOOT PEDAL BUT HAND HELD REMOTE IS OK,BUT THEY NEED TO UPGRADE REMOTE,I WOULD LOVE TO TELL THEM HOW TO DESIGN THE REMOTE BUT I KNOW HOW MUCH THEY WOULD LISTEN,LOL. I MUST SAY THIS ALSO THAT IF I WAS YOUNG I WOULD KEEP WITH MY MAXIUM WITH CABLE,I COULD HOLD IT IN STRONG WINDS AND DOCKS ALSO ,IT BECAME SECOND NATURE BUT THE YEARS GET TO U
Thanks for the input Gene. I have one ordered. Hope to see you on the water. Good luck in the tournaments !
I have a Mk I Pilot also. My only fault is when under a bridge or just off of it the GPS has a hard time. But other than that, the cruise control, fixed heading, recording a track is just great. I had a Motor Guide previously, have the Min Kota now. Both of them are great. Kind of like who's sonar to own.
I have the I-Pilot and love it.
