SI Transducer placement
Hey guys I was wondering where I should place my transducer on my transom I don't have a jackplate. The paper that came with the unit shows an x through the pic of it mounted on the transom with a motor with no jackplate. Will it shoot across the motor if the motor isn't set back off the transom? Trying to eliminate drilling a bunch of hole trying to find the right placement. It is being mounted on a 2002 triton tr 186.

The side imaging transducer has to be free of anything to the sides of the transducer if the motor or anything else is in it's line of sight to the sides it will not shoot through it to see anything on that side. You can use a transducer mounting board to keep from drilling a bunch of holes. Some of them require drilling a couple of holes and some of them just glue to the transom. I also found this it may help. Mounting transducer on a tr186 - Unofficial Humminbird Side Image Forums www.sideimageforums.com

Thanks that's where I was thinking about starting.

SI forum is the best place to post your question before you drill. I put mine in a not so good place on the transom years ago...

I have to trim my motor up to get full si on the one side

I have to trim my motor up some too. I recently installed a transducer on my buddy's boat and the boat had a metal extension on the transom that came back a couple inches at the most. It was placed right where I wanted to place the transducer....so I got to thinking, I would just put the transducer on that piece sticking out. It fit like It was made for it. We took the boat to the water and His motor does NOT block the left side like I thought it would. His boat does NOT have a jack-plate either. Got me contemplating adding an extension to my transom.
