Chickamauga Report 3/12-13/16
The main stem of the Tennessee River is not warming up near as fast as the creeks and coves. I expected that, but not a nearly 10 degree difference this time of year. Unless there is a dramatic change in the weather (very possible - this is Southeast Tennessee) I think some the crappie will spawn on the full moon in the middle of next week, but I don't think they are all ready to do so this time based the condition of several of the females cleaned this weekend. Water temperature was 62+ degrees in the coves and the males were in spawning color. One of the males had his tail worn to a bloody stump. I am not a fisheries biologist, but that sure tells me there is something going on.
Enjoy catching season as they seem to bite any jig color presented to them right now. Chickamauga Lake in the spring will make you think you really know how to catch crappie even if you are not a pro. Get out there and fish now!
Have a great spring.
