modifying mold to use wire keepers

I recently asked about choosing a mold and lots of people said wire keepers so I was planning on getting a mold with wire keepers then I came across a horsehead mold like new for $16 and couldn't pass it up. It does not have a coller or keeper so I was wondering how hard it would be to try and put wire keepers on it so I can use plastics and when I finally try to tie something I will be able to cast some without wire keepers. I have a dremel tool and plan to get a small cutter for it but was wondering how high I put the keepers in the lead to keep them secure. Thanks in advance.

Shouldn't be too hard. I use a dremel diamond wheel to cut my wire keeper. The layout of the cavity would require you to either cut the bend of the wire keeper or better yet just cut it straight through and use a straight wire keeper. Then you would bend the wire keeper after you have poured the head. You would only need to cut one side of the mold and very minimal at that. Here is a pill head I modified to a wire keeper.

Thanks for the help, the first one didn't turn out as nice as I wanted but it pours just fine, no flash at all and the rest look and pour really nice also.
