Just curious......what style and size jig heads does everyone use when spider rigging??
I've just been using a regular 1/8 jig head in whatever color the fish want.
Use your favorite! Weight depends upon speed and depth. You want to stay as vertical as possible. A 1/32 oz jig won't cover any depth moving forward. If using jigs I normally tie a Capps and Coleman rig with a 3/8 to 1oz barrel sinker depending on depth and speed.
I use 1/2oz - 3/4oz weights above my jig ... so the jig weight isn't that much of a factor. But, most of the time I have 1/16oz jigheads pre-tied to leaders, so that's what I use most often. The style of those jigheads can range from ballhead, to insert style, painted & unpainted. I always keep a mixture of them wrapped around a pool noodle section, for quick changes.

I don't spider rig but know 1/8 to 1/4 oz inserted jig heads in bigger tubes on light line work . Lighter line the faster you can move .
I mostly use a 1/2 oz weight with 2 minner critters with a minnow !!!!
So you're using an egg weight with a swivel and leader line from there with your jig? I've thought about doing this just trying to make sure I'm picturing it right in my mind LOL. We've used a split shot above the jig heads in deeper water or high wind on shallow water to hold the jigs down better, just figured there was a better method!Quote:

We have used 1/8 oz with 2'' umbrella tubes moving .4 to .5 mph with jig poles in hand on 8 lb test line for suspended Crappie when they move off the wood .
