I'm getting ready to install an Hds8 on the front on my boat. I have the lss1 box and transducer for side imaging and my question is is it a waste of my time mounting this on my TM motor? Or should I just go with down imaging.

I am looking to upgrade to hds 8 on the front as well. I plan on just using the down imaging. Didn't really answer your question but hopefully someone will. I would like to hear their answer as well.
I'm not a Lowrance guy but if I'm not mistaken on your unit the side and down is made into the same transducer. So if you want DI you will have to mount it and then you have SI. Yours will have a seperate transducer for 2d. Nothing wrong with having SI on front. Especially if your slow trolling in a straight line. Have seen some pretty good pictures from it like that even though a lot of people say it won't work.
Mounting SI to the trolling motor doesn't work too well because when the trolling motor turns, the picture smears. There are some alternate ways to mount the transducer. Check out one of the member/sponsors.... rnvinc...... He makes a bow mount for any transducer. I think his website is called podunk ideas, or something like that. You can find him in the electronics forum.
You will be missing out on a lot if you don't install the LSS-1transducer. If you are just going to use the regular Xducer there is no need for the LSS-1 box to be installed.
I love my sidescan.....it is installed on the rear.
I understand having to keep the TM straight if I side scan. I guess im just wondering if the TM running will interfere with the picture you get? I mainly fish Truman so DI is most important but I also fish LOZ so SI would be nice for shooting under docks
Greg lots of guys running SI upfront. Like said above you have to be going straight and at a good even pace to get the best image. I think you would like it up there for LOZ where its more open water. You could crank the trolling motor up and buzz past the ends of docks and see under them with out going to the big motor to do it. Having the down imaging up front is what will make it worth doing. Certainly in deeper water over piles. I just run my 2D and DI in a split screen up front. I believe I can change ducers in the menu and pull off my rear ducer with my Humminbirds. Not sure if that is possible with Lowrance or not. You will be off by 20' but can still mark spots and go back to it with 2D and DI.
Thanks guys. Next question. Do they make a ducer saver for the TM? Or how are you all mounting it to the TM? I have an Elite 5 up there now and it's mounted with a saver bracket but that SI ducer is huge.
Thanks cray
