I have about 20 pounds of old jig heads that I will never use. Rusty hooks, broken hooks etc. Most of the heads are painted. Do I need to remove the paint before melting them down?

Nope. Melt it down. Take the hooks out. Skim the junk of the top. Drop a small ball of wax in and stir. Skim again and you are good to go.
Thanks
OK another stupid question what does the wax do clean?
WITH good ventilation. Ya don't want to be breathing lead fumes or paint fumes
The wax bonds the slag, and helps to clean the lead, kinda gives the lead a shine, but if you add to much, it will light up and you will have one heck of a fire.
See, there are no stupid questions. Good post.
