D'Arbonne, Poverty,Cheniere and others

Well fellas, the time is finally here. My fishing buddy Jeff (vbottom ) and me are heading south for a well deserved fishing vacation. We will be staying in Monroe at my sons from the 27th of Feb. till March 6. I've gotten some good advise from C.C members and hope to go to the well one more time. We aren't looking to bring back a freezer full of fillets, we catch plenty up here, just want to be able to put fish in the boat. Hoping for enough to feed a dozen people before we head home. Most will be released with stories to tell their grandkids Plan on fishing Poverty Point which I've been on before and D'Arbonne which I've also fished. Thinking of hitting Cheniere in West Monroe, probably launch at the spillway. Is this lake / launch site a good idea or a waste of time? Targeting crappie and gills. How about Black Bayou Lake north of Monroe? Anybody been there lately? Any other tips for finding gills within an hour or so of Monroe would be appreciated. We should be easy to spot on the lake, we'll be the ones fishing the wrong way at the wrong time in the wrong place. I fished black bayou this weekend a few people on the lake pretty weather. No one i talked to caught any crappie i fished from daylight to about 11:00 and only caught 3 bass. Water temps on lake are still 53-56 and a cold front just came through with a cold rain today.

I'd be on Darbonne Lake every single day fishing edges of channels and up the creeks. If you are set on Cheniere, go to Puckett Lake. You can fish right off the bottom and catch bream there right now, but its a real slow bite. Black Bayou will be good real soon, but dont go early, go in the afternoons once the water warms up. Many folks here reports and go at daylight and get skunked. Stay til dark, the fish come alive the last hour of the day. Good luck

Thanks for the tips. Not set on Cheniere, just enjoy getting on new bodies of water. Is Puckett easy to find and which launch is closest? I figured D'Arbonne would be wore out with all the pressure the last couple of weeks but it is a big lake so I'm sure we can find fish that are hungry. If not I'll take Jeff to Poverty Point and catch goo.

Just google Puckett Lake. When you put in at the ramp its straight out about 1/2 mile or less. Just an opening in the swamp really.

Poverty Point is tough if winds are over 10 mph fyi.
