I have been doing some research and am torn between these too. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't talked to anyone that has used chirp and wondered if it made a huge difference.

I would go with the Garmin
I am no expert by any stretch but my take is this. From what I have seen and herd the Garmin units have a much clearer picture on DI. Now the question is how much are you going to use mapping. Never used their mapping but looks cumbersome on the screen and have read that their maps are transferes from paper topo maps not lakes that have been mapped on the water. With the Helix you have the option of using the new Lakemaster which is out of site good if your lakes are on it. So it's kind of a trade off, depends on the features that are most important to you. By the way chirp is not really good for anything other than really deep water even though a bunch of the pro staff guys are touting it big time for target separation.
Just ordered a 10 si and the reason i didnt buy the 12 is because of the chirp. From what i found if u arent fishing deep water its not worth the extra money for the chirp. I would go with a 7 or 9 si.
I disagree with the deep water notion on Chirp. A true Chirp will excell in any depth as far as target separation. It's collecting as many returns in a few minutes as a traditional transducer would all day. They really excell at showing fish through brush, thermoclines, and current.
Save the extra few dollars and skip the KVD unless you just have to have his autograph and red trim
While going thru some older post this just caught my attention regarding Garmin and there maps. I do not own a Garmin nor do I plan on getting one but back in April of 2015 while my boat was in the shop for some work the Garmin Survey Crew just happened to be on my lake mapping it out and used my slip for a few days.Quote:
