HB 597 ci hd down imaging w us2

I just ordered a terrova w I pilot and us2. I know the DI won't work but I would like to move my HB 597 ci hd down imaging unit from the console to the front. I'm getting conflicting information on weather it will work with reg 2d. I've searched this site and generally says it won't. The rep from MK says it won't,although I wasn't impressed with him at all. My dealer says it will and didn't know why MK would say that. Does anyone have any real world experience with this unit on the terrova I pilot with us2?

This is what it said at the bottom of the HB listing .
NOTE: Minn Kota motors with built-in Universal Sonar 2 (including those with i-Pilot Link) are not compatible with Humminbird's Down Imaging Sonar.

It will work ... It just won't work very well ...

2d frequencies in the US2 are 200kHz/83kHz ...

2d frequencies in the 597 DI are 200kHz/455kHz ...

Do not hook up a Humminbrd DI unit to the US2 transducer. You can fry the Humminbird doing this.

I know it's off subject but would lowrance hds 7 gen 2 work on that trolling motor with us2?
For 2d sonar only? Ethernet from console unit for rear si di.?

I'm not sure but there is a compatibility chart on the Minn Kota website

The smaller HB DI units cannot shut off the DI transmitter ...

Connecting a 2d only xducer to the smaller DI units leaves the DI channel transmitting on an open DI circuit ... which is not recommended ...

Will it damage the unit ...?? I have yet to read of damage caused by transmitting to an open circuit ...but it's still not recommended ...

BTW ... My 1197 running a dedicated DI xducer leaves the left SI transmitting on an open circuit ...and even HB says this is possible ...

So there is conflicting information about this possible damage transmitting to an open circuit ...even from HB ...

I still wouldn't recommend using the smaller DI unit on the Terrova ...

I have an 859 up front.I installed a terrova and 859 regular sonar worked with US2. I ended up putting DI transducer on terrova.

The larger HB DI units (859, 959, 1159) can shut off the DI transmitter by selecting Dual Beam in the Connected Transducer menu under the Sonar tab ...
