Try putting them behind your knees holding one hand on one side of the joint and one on the other, twist and spread your knees out and they should come apart.

That's what I told the Doc to do during my wife's last child birth. He wouldn't have anything do with it. So I said; step back and I show ya how is done..lol. Needless to say the kicked me out of the delivery room.
