Never fished for either there. Grew up about 30 minutes from it and have caught a ton of white perch and crappie out of it. Caught a few yellow perch, but not enough to target them I wouldn't think. It is going to be hard to keep the white perch off long enough to catch one. Last time I went about 2 months ago, I got tired of catching perch. I kept 68 huge ones (probably caught twice that) and kept moving to try to get off of them. Finally found a few crappie at the end.
You are right. And even though there are still a lot of crappie in Tillery, they make fishing with minnows tough. I almost always use jigs or crank baits just to limit the white perch.
We definitely have yellow perch although they are not as many as I'd like to see. My brother catches them regularly on Lake Erie. Great eating fish. Most are very small, I have caught them up to 12"/13". A minnow fished close to the bottom. My brother and I feel there could be large schools in deeper water. He'll be down this spring, he knows how they show up on sonar.
Tillery also has Smallmouth Bass which get into the lake primarily from the Uwharrie River. I caught a three pound SM there about two years ago.
