If I was using line counter reels .... 30lb test braid with 6lb test mono leaders.
If I was using spinning reels ... 6lb test mono
.................... baitcast reels ... 8lb test mono
BUT ... it may also depend on which rods were being used, too.
All choices are personal choices on what I "would" use, but since I don't use either method to any degree ... I maintain the right to change my mind, should I start using those methods & encountered difficulties  :Rofl
... cp :kewl
I use 6 for longlining and 10-12 for pulling cranks so I would say 8. That is mono. You might get by with 6/20 braid. I use the same rods a lot but not the same reels.
I've got B&M pro staff trolling rods & line counter reels . Thanks for the help!
Ok, changing reels is a good idea . Thanks .
Braid for cranks tied direct never hurt my catch rate in water with color. Clear water I might add the flouro leader to a couple and see if it mattered to the fish. B/C for crankbaits worked good for me but spinning for jigs makes life lots easier. I wouldn't get specific rods but I do have a different set of reels and just change them out when the season changes.
I use the same rods and reels for both, line size 10# stren mono, hi viz. I have 4 counter reels and four casting reels on my rods. 4 -12' and 4 - 10'.
Whatever I use never seems to work.
