Minnkota or motorguide
Wanting to buy a new trolling motor, recently bought a hds touch screen. I know the motor guide will go wireless with the motor guide, but i have always had minnkota. Has anyone tried the new motorguide Xi trolling motor? Its A nice chunk of change for the ipilot or the Xi5, just looking for any thoughts or opinions. Thanks in advance

Cant help you on the Motorguide as I am a Minn Kota man. I have the PowerDrive V2 with co-pilot and while not as fancy as an Ipilot I really like the motor and wireless control. I had one on my old Tracker and when I bought the new Tracker I immediately put a PDv2 on it. I will eventually upgrade to the Ipilot, but as long as the Co-pilot works I will stick with it.

I have HDS Gen3 units and just got a new Minn-Kota terrova if that helps, but I have heard the motor guides are good.

I only consider Minnkota. Nothing but grief from Motorguide.

Thanks guys for the input.

59 years old and ALWAYS ran MinnKotas. Never had one to die either. I figure if it aint broke then dont try to fix it.;)

Fished both, got both now. Both last, both work. If I had your Sonar, I would buy MG.

I have had the Xi5 for over a year now. No problems. I especially like the built in transducer but MinnKota may have that feature also. I do not have it linked to my Lowrance HDS. I thought about it but for the extra money I could not see the advantage. Given all the features it has the anchor lock is most helpful particularly if you do any dock shooting.

I bought an iPilot when I bought my new boat. It is the best thing I ever bought for fishing. Like I have said before I can help my wife with fish in the back of the boat and still steer the trolling motor with the remote. I love it and everything has worked well with it. I think I could fish for three days without charging. The only thing is my wife wants a remote control so she can help steer when I am busy with hung rods and multiple fish. Please don't tell her I have a spare remote programmed in my dry box. LOL.

I asked the same questions a few months ago and fished with both units.
I decided on the Motorguide XI5 even though I have a Humminbird FF. The primary advantage for MG is the anchor feature for MG is it actually holds you within the 5ft radius of your position due to it having 2 internal digital GPS compass. Both advertise this feature however the MinnKota is actually 5-15ft with 1 GPS compass which is a huge difference if you fish vertically.
This would have been a no brainer for me if I had Lowrance units. The only thing I'm missing is the ability for the TM and FF to talk. I hope this helps. Good luck
