Ideas for different types of cover.

Since it's Winter and people are building cover, here are a few different types that the group that Lowell and I belong to, added to our home lake for 10+ years.
These are packed in groups, or mixed tightly with natural wood in the lake....you can mix long lasting wood and pvc together in the same base, or just group them!
The best wood to use is a long lasting hardwood, some like Osage Orange (hedge apple) will last a couple generations, same with iron wood...cypress, oak, mahogany, locust, are just a few hardwoods to use.

How are you getting the black pipe to stay in the crates? I have been thinking about how I am going to get mine to stay in the holes I have drilled in my pipe.

We even built 2 huge freshwater reefs in mud flats between productive water and drop-offs. This tied all the areas together and made a barren area productive also....
Reefs were made with trailer load after trailer load of broken up concrete, then hundreds upon hundreds of Concrete blocks, and then over 500 ten hole bricks....these are crawfish heavens!:)

I have endless supplies of black plastic tie-straps of all sizes from 50 to 250lbs.
The thing is that our projects cost us very little...except manpower and time.
Blocks were donated, bricks were donated, broken concrete was free, 5 gallon buckets were free from several places or 1 dollar from a local bakery, vinyl covered Stainless Steel cable and clamps were donated by a local Crane company, milk crates were free, tie straps, PVC was donated, given as scrap or bought cheap in bulk, trees were free, same with limbs.
If you have a plan, and explain it well, people will help you out for a good cause!

"When you care enough to just LITTER the WHOLE lake..." Unfortunately the USAF wasn`t able to loan us an entire squadron of B-52s for an afternoon of low level `fun` due to their pressing "other engagements" at that time so we did the next best thing and "splashed" them ourselves ! (It would have been NEAT to watch them at work though...)
