Kayak Trip Report, Limestone Creek

I fished Limestone Creek today from 11:30AM till about 4:30PM. I had a very good day with half my Crappie caught spider rigging 18 to 24 inches deep in 36 inches of water. Best bait was a Chartreuse Bobby Garland on a 1/16oz jig head. I caught about an equal number on a 1/32oz Yellow Road Runner casting to scattered stumps and brush in 36 inches to 48 inches of water. I kept half a limit for the freezer returning another 25 or so for another day.

The water was very clear and 46 degrees. Lots of brush and trees were moved around by the December high water.

I think I want to add "going kayak fishing with you" to my bucket list.

DB you are on it man!!! I've never caught a yellow perch in there before, very interesting to see him in the cooler. They sure eat good when you can find one around here. I catch a few in the Big G while fishing for bream usually.

Were you fishing in the back of the creek in the old pits ?

The Crappie I caught casting came from the deeper water as you come in out of the bay up until the first bend back to the left. The spider rigging fish came from some of the old pits. I did see one boat slowly working it's way in to the creek from out of the bay, but I paddled into the first old pit back to the west before they got close. I'm not sure if they saw me. To pick through that stump field in 12 to 18 inches of water with a big boat, they wanted in the north end pretty bad.

Hey Ditch, what's that yellow perch with black stripe's? That must be a Tennessee River species. I know I've never caught any on the Black Warrior chain. I don't fish north Alabama much. If I do it's usually Weiss Lake.

It's a yellow perch, someone on the Crappie.com board had to tell me what they were a few years ago. Up until then I was tossing them back. Small fish, but tasty!
