My 998 locked up on me today, I couldn't get anything the work, it was locked up and the tech rep at Humminbird couldn't say or do anything to help me. I had to send it in and the bill was $370 before they even looked at it. I wish I knew someone who could help me with the problem but I don't. They said they would have it back in 3 to 5 days.
I was having trouble with my 998 not wanting to turn off. It didn't happen all the time and worked great otherwise but I called HB about sending it in. They said $370 service fee so I sold it to a friend with him fully aware of the issue. The service fee I saved and the sale price were just short of the cost of a new Helix 10. No brainer for me. With your unit dead, I would think you had no choice like I did.
I had the same problem....
I removed the power and restarted it and works find now.

What's with the $370.00 service charge before they even look at it. That is about all that it cost humminbird to have them made to start with. Like everything else there is a big mark up. At that price they should just send you a new unit.:twocents
I had a problem with my lowrance 12 turning on and off in a continuous loop and they told me they don't work on them...break out another thousand and add $800 and we will replace it with a gen 3 ...let us take away your Merry Christmas and you have a Happy New Year :banghead
Humminbird and Lowrance both need to be ashamed of themselves...they are ripping people off I'm on the phone with a fellow right now who is headed to Eufaula in the morning to get Humminbird to fix his unit.Devil Icon

Flat rate service on my 1197 now stands at $697.50 ...
I couldn't get that for the entire unit if I sold it ...
