Lake Higgins 1-2-16

Fished Lake Higgins today. Caught 53 crappie, a 1 1/2 lb largemouth, and a 4 lb 2 oz catfish. Long line trolling jigs. Mostly small fish but a steady bite. Water temp 56 degrees. Strange for January as it has risen from 53 degrees two weeks ago. Catfish bit a middle rod and it was touch and go for a while until I could work him to the outside. Got lucky-no tangles. Just slimmed up me and the boat. Kept six for a meal. Good day on the water.

Released the catfish. It has been so long since I ate a catfish that I may not remember how to skin one out.

Fish were 20' deep. I use split shot above the jigs to get down to the desired depth.
