2D/360 chart speed, jigging mode, 999ci SI 7.650 software

Rickie, I have complained about the slow (below-setpoint) chart speed in 2D when I have 2D/360 screen up. I have "jigging mode" ON. I called HB and they said it was to minimize crosstalk, I don't understand how I would have that much from (2D) 200kHz to (360) 455kHz. But that's what the said. As soon as I turn 360 "off" chart speed is back to normal setpoint speed on the same page 2D/360. Any ideas on this? I have a 999ci HD SI running 7.650 software.


I wanted to move this from Fishing Electronics "Not showing fish" to "Side/Down Imaging" in hopes of getting more comments. I jumped the thread and it got off subject.

It seems I'm faintly remembering someone else posting about the Chart speed slowing down when 2d/360 is viewed ...

I'll see if I can did it up ...

Have you tried the different "Beam Select" menus (200kHz - 200kHz/83kHz) to see if the Chart speed reacted the same ...??

I have the same issue i think. Chartspeed increases to an unusable level when i switch from 83kh to 200kh

Kosmo, I see what you mean. One thing I noticed is you are using 800kHz on your DI. With my 999ci if I turn 800kHz "ON" it blows the 360 to white all the way till 0-1 sensitivity. HB told me I can't use 800kHz with 360 and they are aware of this issue. I thought the 360 was probably set to max of 455kHz but it must be set by what you select (455 or 800) so if I want to use 800kHz I then have to go to menu and turn it off before turning my 360 on.

I'm getting so discouraged with HB and my 999ci SI - software 7.650 issues. It has bugs and problem all over the place. I keep sending my issues to HB but have no idea when they will be working on getting them fixed. I wish they would have at least got the "now discontinued" xxx9 core units software working correctly before they moved on to the Helix. They seem to have forgot about all the loyal HB customers that still own one of the core units.

Jigging mode was a recent software update to address the HB 2d complaint of "over pixelation" (HB SI units only) ...

When HB released the 360 software (6.570) ...they also decided to make a change in the unit ping sequence to enhance imaging (DI/SI) ...

This was accomplished by having the unit transmit the SI signal more often in the ping sequence by decreasing the amount of 2d transmit pings ...

This decreased the amount of 2d info being obtained to plot into the 2d image ...

To keep the 2d image scrolling correctly (with less 2d data) the unit must copy vertical rows of pixels (double pixeling) as it is plotting the vertical rows on the 2d image ...

This causes a "blocky" look to the 2d image ... Which many 2d users did not like ...

Instead of abandoning the new ping sequence (with enhanced SI pinging) ... HB added a user selectable "Jigging Mode" which tells the transmitters to revert the ping sequence back to the ping sequence before 6.570 ...

So.....
"Jigging Mode On" is better 2d (with lessened SI pinging) ...
"Jigging Mode Off" is better SI (with lessened 2d pinging) ...

You may not see the difference in the SI image ... But you will see the difference in the 2d image ...

Rickie, are you saying that Jigging mode "ON" in new software is back to the original ping code?

*Jigging Mode - this is a selection in the 2D Sonar Express Menu. It allows the user to select the sonar ping pattern for use while vertical jigging. When turned ON the ping pattern will be: 200 kHz, Left SI Beam, Right SI Beam, 83 kHz, repeat. With this mode turned OFF the ping pattern will be: 200 kHz, Left SI Beam, Right SI Beam, 83 kHz, Left SI Beam, Right SI Beam, repeat. Basically this feature prioritizes the 2D beam over the SI beam.

Zippy, what HB unit, and what software version are you having the chart problem with?

You are correct.360 is 455khz only.I found out the same as you.If my 998 was set too 800khz,then when 360 was turned on the unit would ping the 360 on (what appears to be the 800khz).Acually,in some cases,this turned out to be better."software glitch".This doesn't happen on the onix.
On the onix,when 360 is pinging while the 455khz,si/di is pinging.There will be crosstalk ,interference on the 360 screen.This is easily fixed by either turning pinging off to si/di or changing si/di pinging to 800khz.
