Anybody here just using plastics/jigs?
Not if I can help it!:biggrin
always do better with minnows/gnats and minnow .I don't have the right tools to power troll plastics .:banghead
I will use curly tails when moving from .4-.8 mph. I will use hair and feathers from .1-.5.
I don't do spider rigging but only use plastics or hand tied jigs . I have seen on my home lake some guys spider rigging in same boat one side using jigs the other side minnows and report same catch rates . This may not work all places or times . Sure can be cheaper and less trouble .:twocents
We spider rig with just plastics all the time. The other day we were tipping with minnows. Ran out of minnows and went to straight plastics. After running out of minnows the size of the Crappie we were catching went through the roof.
I "push" jigs/plastics most all the time (3-4 pole spread) ... usually at between 0.6 & 0.8mph ... and plastics used are usually Shadpoles or Slabanator Shad bodies.
I haven't really gotten around to tipping with a minner, but I'm sure there'll be a time & place where that's necessary.

Have you ever tried slowing down pappy.....I seem to get more hits if I stay at .2 mph fall, winter, and spring.........but yeh during summer months I speed up some.
I basically just started "pushing" this past Spring, and yeah I have pushed at slower speeds ... I just always seem to end up running at those speeds, mostly for boat control & line angle. Most of my success at pushing jigs/plastics has come when the fish were scattered & suspended & on the move.
I was just referring to what I've done (so far) fishing out of my boat, using my 14' long poles. I have "spider rigged" from other boats with minners, hook/sinker rig on 10' rods (back before I got my long poles), and I'm sure the speeds were not as fast as I "push" from my boat.
And actually, come to think of it, I probably should have said my speed varies from 0.4mph - 0.8mph
