Any one have any tips into running a new cable from the stern to console? Sadly there is not anything already there that I put a cord on and use to pull the new wire back in. I can take it to a shop but that's $100 for them to run a wire. Figured I'd see if there is an easy way.
On my SeaArk I used 8ga solid copper wire. Fed it through where I wanted to run cable and taped transducer cable to it and pulled it back thru. Just don't get in a hurry, it's a tedious job working it through some areas. I had to take some panels out but all in all it was a fairly easy job. Good luck.
Most boats have little areas just for doing this type of work. It may have to be done in two or more stages, tho. So try to open side panels, peek under lids, etc to look for an access tube just behind the driver's seat and going back to the transom....this will be the first "pull". You will have to push (either from the access spot back to the transom, or forward to the access spot from the transom) a stiff wire, fish tape, etc (I use a stripped, solid copper wire, approx 10 ga.) Make a loop and cover with elec. tape to prevent snags. and to help it go around corners. There is even lubricant available to help go around corners. You will just have to thread your new wire in a little at a time, but you will get it done. The next pull is from the access spot you found up to the console. Should be easier this time....good luck
I just bought a new Triton 18TX and the cup holder by the drivers seat provided access to the rigging tube going to the bilge and the path going by the shifter and on to the console area. I was also able to guide my fish tape toward the console by removing the fuseblock from the side panel under the console.
Harbor Freight sells a fiberglass fish tape that is in about one foot sections that screw together to make the lenth you need. It's really handy and cost less than $10.00
