Do you long-line for crappie here in OK? If you do what are some tips and tricks that you can share, what lakes, and areas on the lakes tend to do best. Also, what baits do you like for this technique? I hear that this is supposed to really be good in the fall, but seldom see anyone comment on it.

I've done it some over the years fairly successfully. It's not a favorite technique for me but can be productive when the fish are scattered. I usually work the creek channels or shoreline around rip-rap or points. It's just another name for trolling (jigs instead of cranks) and I much prefer other techniques for crappie. I use spinning reels with 6 lb line and make a long cast out from the boat. Two jigs per line (usually 1/16th) and two lines on each side of boat with one long and one short rod each side. At least it's faster than spider rigging.

It's a great technique after the spawn or post spawn when the fish have left the banks and are feeding up. We not only use it on natural banks but also along rip rap. We usually find fish on our structure scan determining depth of water we want to target. Start at that depth by using 10' rods, 10lb mono, 2 jigs (usually a 1/4oz on bottom and a 3/16oz on top), drop the jigs to the bottom with slack line, place the constant and momentary switch on your TM to constant and head down the bank. Depending on speed which will change day by day will be from .50 to 1.25 mph by gps speed. It's a great way to catch numbers of fish and also locating concentrated schools. It's a vicious bite as well. This technique can be used at different times of the year as well. Good Luck.......Ranger
That is Oklahoma style (which is what you asked for.) For more traditional long lining there is a wealth if information over on the Mississippi forum. That's the way I learned it years ago. I do it Ranger's way as well frequently but call that strolling (or rolling, depending on the speed.) For that technique I use heavier gear and baitcast reels. I've had both ways work well.
