Check the humminbird helix 5's they are starting to come down in price after the helix 7's came out.

Whichever way you go, check for the lowest online price you can find ... then contact Brian@BBGMarine (Member Sponsor) and see if he can beat that price.

do I have to buy something with the humminbird or lowance to be able to have all the maps, or does the map chip/card thing come with the unit? I am only 15, so i am working on a tight budget here guys, lol.
GPS is included along with a vague outline of most lakes. With the H'bird units, you will have to buy a separate map card for very detailed maps. You will be able to mark waypoints to return to, but you won't have a topographical map system. Paper maps are available for many lakes, and that would be a good way for you to start.
The chip card is a separate item and it really makes a lot of difference in the details of the water. Contour lines, creek beds and channels are much clearer with the card. However you can certainly get by with the built in mapping and as you add your land marks each time the map will become customized for you.
The Helix 5 2D with GPS is a good unit for the money. Check with Brian on here at BBG Marine. He is a site sponsor and good to work with and he will beat the big box store prices too.
Also, you can watch the personal adds on here for a used chip when someone upgrades, just be sure to get the correct one for your area.
I'll echo - the Helix 5 DI GPS @ $350 is as good as you are going to get in that range. I love mine.
I think I am going to have to go with the Humminbird on this one. Thanks for all the great info guys!
