Ready to go after Bluegills?
Wanted to break in the new vice tonight. This is a 1/124 jig. It's called a Caps Spider. Been wanting to try this one. I didn't have any chenille, so I had to substitute black sparkle braid. I also going to make a few with peacock herl as well.

Looking good man! How are you liking that new vise anyway? I bet you like it and just know it will even get better as you get use to that straight jaw.

Im trying to find someone to pour me some 1/124 jigs. My usual source doesn't pour that small. I guess I could use 1/80, but according to the video I watched, the 1/80 doesn't sink slow enough. Hard to imagine that, but I suppose it could be true. I guess I won't know till I get a chance to wet a hook.
You could always get a little into fly tying hooks and use a bead for the head. Actually could probably use a jig hook and a slotted bead for the head!!Quote:

those are some mighty fine looking little jigs I'm sure the bluegill will tear them to pieces.

Yeah use a tungsten slotted bead and jig hook... Cabelas sells 1/124 with gold hook #10 or #12 hook I think...

On my smallest ties I use a dry fly hook usually a 1X long and squeeze a splitshot just behind the eye. A dab of SHHAN (Sally Hansen Hard as Nails) keeps it in place. I add a coating of black nail polish over that. Makes a dandy straight hook jig. A bit of craft fur for the tail and body of peacock herl finishes it. I have thrown them on a 5wt fly rod with a strike indicator on the fluorocarbon tippet and the red ears love them.
