Big Sandy West Sandy
Haven't seen any reports for this area for a while. Was thinking of coming down for a week. Have the fish shut off? Or is everyone too busy catching to post anything. I am just trying to time it for some decent fishing. It's a 500 mile trip one way for me.

I haven't been out but a couple of my neighbors were catching some decent fish late last week. I'm going to try to get out tomorrow morning and if I do I'll let you know if I do any good or get any reports from others.

Reports I have read emphasized lots of short fish. The KY fish biologist reported crappie recruitment down. There is a reason. I believe it had something to do with the record high waters in 2010 and 2011 during late spawn. I could be wrong, but 15 foot above normal pool is a good bet on doing in crappie fry, etc.

I went out this morning from 7:30am to about 12:30. I probably caught around 15 fish but I only had 1 keeper that was 14 3/4" long. I didn't talk to anyone else that fished today so I don't know if my luck was the norm. :dono

Thanks for the reports guys. Sounds like I might be better to wait for another couple weeks or just save my money till next year. Getting that time where I got to think about winterizing the boat. It is a must do up here in the land of ice and snow.

A friend who fishes quite a bit in that area on KY lake has been getting some good numbers in Blood river about 30 minutes drive north of Big Sandy. He has been spider rigging jigs tipped with minnows following the creek channel, don't know how deep.
