im from meridian and curious wheres the best place to catch crappie most will probably say oakitibbee iv fished the spillway there havnt caught many and fished the lake over by he water park i dont have a boat so i need a place where i can fish from the bank any hellp will greatly be appreciated
We have members that fish Oakitibbee a lot. You need a boat.
The spillway gets good when they have the gate open big, just need to watch for the discharge amounts. I think they have a # to call with that info. In the spring folks catch a lot of cat and crappie on the rocks on the dam. Found the # 601-626-8431
i always figured it would be harder to catch them when the spillway is flooded since theres so much more water area and depth to fish at i hear people fiishing off the bridge when its flooded i always tried to go to the spillway when it was down i thought it would increase my chances f finding fish guess thats why i never do well there lol
I've always had better luck with a strong water flow. Haven't fished it much in the last few years due to a bad knee but would think it's still the same.Quote:

also do you fish past the bridge down towards the creek or more towards the walls rocks
Never fished okatibbee spillway, but I'm sure it's like the reservoirs up here. Full of gar in the warmer months. Best for crappie winter and spring when they are releasing water.Quote:

i know where u talking about iiv never had luck there maybe its my bait and depth what do you fish with when there and how full is the spillway exactly for your best results water all the way to the top of the banks?
Just when the water flow was strong, don't remember the level of the water so much but most times pretty full. After all this rain they should start to let it flow after the creek falls some down stream. About 3' deep should work and all I've use is jigs and nibbles. Lots of folks us minnows but too much trouble to me. On the dam in spring when cats are spawning I've used worms and little smokes cut up, jigs for crappie. Like I've said a good many years ago, too hard for this old man now.Quote:
